A Tornado Watch has expired for the Tampa Bay area. Several areas are also under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch.
The National Weather Service issued the Tornado Watch for parts of Florida and Georgia around 10 a.m. Friday. The watch expired at 4 p.m.
“A watch means that all the conditions are there for the potential of severe weather that could include some tornadoes,” Storm Team 8 meteorologist Leigh Spann said. “I really think wind gusts are our biggest concern.”
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 10 p.m. for Polk, Manatee, Sarasota and Hardee counties.
Around 1:45 p.m., a 62 mph wind gust was reported at Brooksville-TB Regional Airport.
