TAMPA, Fla (WFLA) Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Tyler Glansow was named the American League Pitcher of the Month for the month of April and infielder Brandon Lowe was named the league’s Rookie of the Month.
Both players contributed to the best start in franchise history and Lowe helped seal the club’s 20th win of the season Thursday with a ninth inning two-run home run to give the Rays a 3-1 lead over the Kansas City Royals.
Glasnow won four games in April and owns a 5-0 record thanks to a win over the Houston Astros on March 30th. He is one of just three Rays pitchers in franchise history to begin a season with a 5-0 record. His earned run average of 1.75 currently leads the American League.
Lowe batted .289 in April with 17 runs batted in as well as 17 runs scored. His six home runs during the month established a new club record for April and he hit safely in nine straight games.
