TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – The Tampa Bay Lightning are preparing for NHL free agency, which begins on July 1.
Monday, the team met the league’s 5 p.m. deadline to make qualifying offers to four restricted free agents, including left wing, Adam Erne, defenseman, Slater Koekkoek, center, JT Miller, and center, Cedric Paquette.
The offers allow the Lightning to have to right of first refusal of draft choice compensation should a player sign an offer sheet with another NHL team.
The Lightning will also speak with representatives of free agent center John Tavares, the most sought after free agent this summer. On Monday, Tavares met with the Toronto Maple Leafs in Los Angeles.
While a move to Tampa Bay would be exciting for fans and intriguing to the league, the Lightning are not considered a favorite to land Tavares.
