Braden River High School baseball team prepares for regional semifinal game on Saturday

The Braden River Pirates High School baseball team is enjoying another historic playoff run. After finishing the regular season with a 13-12 record, the team won its third district championship. It is the first time the team has done it back to back to back in program history.

“We talked a little bit about last year,” the head coach, Craig Page, told me on Friday afternoon at practice. “We were playing in the first regional semifinal game in program history, which was incredible for us. We never won a regional game before and to be back there this year is really special for us. We learned a lot from last season. We got a lot of young players, a lot of new guys, but their whole approach of how they go about their business, they don’t take themselves too seriously. We have a lot of fun. I think they are really excited.”

The Pirates lost that game last season but they have a chance to win their first regional semifinal game in school history again this season. They will face the Osceola Fundamental High School Warriors in enemy territory at 7 o’clock on Saturday evening.

“I cannot wait,” said senior pitcher, Calvin Hedgepeth. “The excitement level is really high around the whole club house. We have a really good team this year and we are looking to put it together again tomorrow against Osceola.”
