2008 Rays visit Tropicana Field

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) - The Tampa Bay Rays are hosting a 10 year celebration of that magical 2008 team.

It was a team that went "worst to first" to win an American League Championship on their way to a World Series battle with the Philadelphia Phillies, a series in which the Phillies won 4 to 1.

Before Friday's game against the Chicago White Sox, several 2008 team members spoke at a press conference.

This included 2008 team MVP Jason Bartlett, Aki Iwamura, 2008 All-Star Scott Kazmir,  James Shields (visiting as a member of the White Sox) and B.J. Upton.

Upton spent a majority of his MLB career in Tampa Bay, and hit seven home runs in the 2008 postseason.

Upon reflecting on that 2008 run, he said, "Once we started rolling...honestly we were just kids playing the game. We kept that attitude all year. Joe [Maddon] kept pounding on us to keep that attitude. We kept that the entire season."

During Friday and Saturday's games, members of the 2008 team will say hello to fans upon entering Tropicana Field and will sign autographs in the 20th Anniversary Exhibit.
