March is National Women’s History Month, and WFLA is celebrating some of the most remarkable women in the Tampa Bay region. A panel of judges selected four finalists from nearly 200 essays written by people who know and admire them.



Judy Cornett

Judy Cornett is the founder of Safety Zone Advocacy, a nonprofit dedicated to the education, prevention & intervention of sex crimes against children.


Joanne Braccio

Joanne Braccio was named a finalist for her compassion and dedication to her community. She is devoted to helping people who are facing life’s hardest battles, knowing all too well how difficult it is to overcome them.



Allie Benson

Allie Benson is the founder of St. Petersburg nonprofit Charlie’s Champs and its extension, Charlie’s Closet. Both aim to support the families of children with disabilities by providing medical and recreational equipment at no cost – items that are often expensive and not covered by insurance.


Mary Dilworth

Mary Dilworth founded Touched By An Angel Ministries 20 years ago and has since helped hundreds of people in Tampa Bay receive basic needs, food and even housing.
