TAMPA, FL (WFLA) – Tampa police officers are looking into a video showing a brawl at Hogan’s Beach Tampa. The video was apparently taken at Hulk Hogan’s bar and restaurant on July 4 and posted to YouTube.
The original video is more than 12 minutes in length. News Channel 8 has edited it for time. The video shows a fight beginning in the eatery and bar. It’s not clear what caused the fight to break out. Police said no one was arrested after the fight. One man was barred from entering Hogan’s for the next year. That man, James Arroyo, told News Channel 8 he was advised by his attorney not to speak about the fight.
The video starts with an altercation inside the restaurant. Furniture is toppled over, and about a half dozen people are seen on the ground. The fight then pours out into the parking lot, where security is involved. Chokeholds are used, and women are seen pulling hair. It appears from the video staff members are involved in the hair-pulling.
“Security is allowed to use force to defend themselves just like any other citizen as well as to detain a patron until police arrive,” Tampa police said. “A Hogan’s Beach staff member is the one who called police for the disturbance.”
Residents say they’ve complained about Hogan’s Beach before. “This is just a bunch of thugs that are showing up to a place where they can exercise their anger,” said Bud Blanton who lives nearby and has complained about the activities at Hogan’s Beach to the Tampa City Council.
Blanton previously complained about the noise, which he tells News Channel 8 has gotten better. “It would be so bad that when you would try to be in your house working in your office in your house or something, it would just rattle the windows of your house,” he said.
Police have been called to Hogan’s Beach more than 100 times since February. “Because everybody is so star struck with the name Hogan that they’re just being allowed to do as they pleas,e and we’ve got to put up with it and try and let law enforcement control it,” Blanton said.
Calls to Hogan’s Beach were not returned Monday.
