TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – The University of South Florida’s football team will be facing off against one of the biggest names in college football in Tampa.
Michael Kelly, the vice president of athletics at USF, announced Thursday that the Bulls will face off against the Crimson Tide in a three-game football series that will begin in 2023. The first game in the series will take place in Tampa.
“We are very excited to open the Alabama series in Tampa in 2023 and to add one of the most successful brands in American sports to a very exciting list of future opponents that will give our student-athletes and coaches a great opportunity to compete against the best programs in the nation,” Kelly said in a statement.
The Bulls now have 15 games scheduled throughout the next 10 years against SEC and ACC opponents.
“I think our fans are really excited to see those teams come to Tampa as well as the opportunity to travel and cheer on the Bulls in those destinations,” Kelly said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun to be a USF fan.”
The Bulls and the Crimson Tide will open the series at Raymond James Stadium on Sept. 16, 2023. USF will travel to Alabama’s Bryant-Denny Stadium for the two remaining games on Sept. 7, 2024 and Sept. 12, 2026.
USF and Alabama met once before in 2003. The Crimson Tide won the game in Tuscaloosa 40-17.
