POLK COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Two young Polk county women are among the victims who were gunned down Sunday morning at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando.

Sadly, the last moments of Amanda Alvear’s life already stand as the world’s most haunting memory of her. She recorded a few clips of dancing on her cell phone, then the unmistakable sound of a madman’s gun.

The video shows Amanda looking into her cell phone camera, then 17 shots fired in just five seconds, Amanda’s face disappears from sight.

Amanda was 25 years old. She attended Ridge Community high school in Davenport, a community of about 2,800 people, just north of Haines City.

Her family lives in a gated Davenport community. When we reached out to them, they relayed that they are still grieving and just not ready to discuss what occurred.

Amanda was at Pulse with her good friend Mercedez Flores.

Mercedez turned 26 in April. She is the youngest of three children, with two older brothers. She also graduated from Ridge Community high. According to her sister-in-law, Mercedez had a large group of friends that loved to party on the weekends. She worked at the Target off route 27 in Davenport while attending Valencia Community College, to become a party planner.

According to her sister-in-law, Mercedez was among the last victims removed from the nightclub today. Her family was to meet with authorities in Orlando at 1:30 pm. According to her sister-in-law, her family was told Mercedez did not suffer. That is little consolation for parents when a child is taken so young.Related stories:
