As schools across Tampa Bay swing back into session, one major roadway is causing a big headache for drivers.
Two westbound lanes of Linebaugh Avenue near Sheldon Road will be closed for nearly two months for a county construction project.
The two right-turn lanes turning northbound onto Sheldon Road and a bike lane are going to be closed until the end of February.
This is so the county can install a new sewer line beneath the road.
One lane will become a right turn lane, the other a left turn lane.
As for alternate routes, there aren’t many great ones. Drivers can choose to take Gunn Highway westbound to Sheldon Road. If they’re going to Westchase they’d turn on to southbound Sheldon. There’s an exit to Gunn Highway from the Veterans Expressway.
Drivers can also exit the Veterans at Waters Avenue, then travel west to Sheldon. If they’re going to Westchase, they may opt to stay on Waters all the way to Countryway Boulevard.
Both “alternates” will be congested and may not provide a time travel savings. So, drivers will have to decide if it’s worth the alternate route, or simply add on some extra travel time.
The construction is expected to wrap up on February 25.
