TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – A man is in custody after he drove his pickup truck through the entrance of a Home Depot in Tampa, police confirmed.
The doors to the store located at 17601 Bruce B Downs Blvd. were open when he drove inside and parked at the checkout line, officials said.
"Everybody was screaming and running," said witness Karen Ware.
It is unclear at this time why the man drove the truck into the store.
Witnesses say a young man got out of the truck and took off running toward a Speedway gas station.
Ware said the man then put a huge wad of money on top of an ice machine at the gas station before he was tackled to the ground.
"I was nervous. I was scared because I know happened in New York recently and he left the truck there and got out and ran, so at that point, everybody didn't know, ok, is there something in this truck like a bomb we should be worried about?" Ward said.
The Tampa Police Department said witnesses were able to tackle the driver and that nothing dangerous was found inside the truck.
"In fact, there was one who went in his truck after him with the lumber and everything hanging out the back of his truck and he was in pursuit of the man," Ware said.
