TAMPA, FL (WFLA) — A 17-year-old Tampa teen died after crashing his car while talking on the phone and driving on Thursday.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says Jordan Luis Rodriguez of Tampa crashed his car around 5:13 p.m. Thursday. Deputies say he was talking on his cell phone and driving a 1999 Chevrolet Lumina at a high rate of speed northbound on Northdale Blvd. and Silverhill Drive in Tampa.
Rodriguez failed to negotiate a left hand curve, lost control, crossed the southbound lanes and struck a wall.
He was not wearing his seat belt, deputies say, and died at the scene.
Alcohol is not expected to be involved. The investigation is ongoing.
