A Pasco County teenager was arrested Thursday for trespassing and loitering and prowling. But it’s what the teen is accused of doing before the arrest that alarmed detectives.
Investigators with the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office wrote in an arrest report that the 17-year-old suspect “was going to various homes to record YouTube videos on how to cover up residential surveillance cameras.”
When the teen realized that law enforcement was called, deputies explained that he jumped over a closed, locked fence on Lucerne Drive in Land O’ Lakes.
Deputies got to the scene and ask the teen to surrender.
Body camera video given to 8 On Your Side from the sheriff’s office shows a conversation between the teen and a deputy.
“I do a blog, a YouTube blog,” the boy said while sitting in the back of a patrol car.
“For what?” the deputy asked.
“For YouTube. I make funny videos,” he said. “Pranks and stupid things to do. I make those.”
“Is that what was kind of going on here?” the deputy asked.
“Yeah,” the teen said.
The suspect is a student at Wiregrass Ranch High School in Pasco County, the report states.
It’s unclear how many videos he’s accused of making.
“It’s a breakdown in family life, in church life. It’s tragic really,” said neighbor Tony Nash.
No one came to the door at the teen’s home when 8 On Your Side stopped by Friday.
