SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) — Firefighters in Sarasota are battling a warehouse fire that is sending large plumes of black smoke into the sky. The smoke can be seen for miles.

A Sarasota County Fire Department spokesperson said the fire is at 2740 Leonard Reid Ave.

A boat and truck are on fire inside the warehouse. The warehouse also stores fiberglass, which is creating a lot of smoke.

Witnesses who saw the blaze from a distance said they heard explosions and saw flames shooting high into the sky, followed by black smoke.

The Sarasota Police Department has closed MLK from US 301 to Newton Boulevard. Leonard Reid is also closed from Myrtle to MLK.

No one was inside the warehouse when the fire broke out.

The blaze is under control.
