TAMPA (WFLA) – Sarasota Police Chief Bernadette DiPino’s daughter who was injured in a friendly fire incident in Maryland has been released from the hospital according to WBAL-TV.

Officer Hayes is a 13 1/2 year veteran of the force was shot by another officer May 2 while responding to a report of a break-in in Parkville according to the Baltimore Sun.

Police said a man called 911 saying there was someone inside his home waving a gun at him.

Body-worn camera footage and additional evidence show that when officers arrived, there was no one else in the home and Johnson picked up a gun and pointed it at officers, causing them to open fire.

Homicide Unit detectives determined Johnson’s gun wasn’t loaded. They also discovered he left his will and last requests for burial out for officers to find.

Police said Officer Hayes and three other officers fired their service weapons at Johnson. The officers are on routine administrative leave.
