Sarasota PD: Man breaks into home, sexually batters, robs deaf woman

A suspect in Sarasota broke into a deaf couple’s home and sexually battered the woman at gunpoint when her husband was just outside the house, Sarasota Police detectives said.

According to SPD, Herbert Earl Stilley, III, 27, of Sarasota, got into the victim’s home at about 2 a.m. on Feb. 10. The woman was in the room, her husband was outside and their children were sleeping in the bedroom.

Stilley pointed a small firearm at the woman’s face and demanded money, according to police. Both the woman and her husband can read lips.

In fear for her kids’ safety, the woman took Stilley to her bedroom and gave him her purse. He sexually battered her at gunpoint. She was scared and couldn’t fight him.

Stilley ran out of the room and the woman’s husband chased him out of the house.

Sarasota PD detectives have been working on this case since February. They uncovered DNA evidence and issued a warrant for Stilley’s arrest. They took him into custody Wednesday in the 2100 block of Dixie Avenue in Sarasota.

He is in the Sarasota County jail on the charges of felony armed home invasion and felony armed sexual battery.
