VENICE, Fla. (WFLA) — The search for Gabby Petito’s fiancé Brian Laundrie isn’t slowing down.

Crews went back out to the Carlton Reserve Wednesday, an area that’s 75% underwater. North Port police and other law enforcement agencies are now using boats, dive teams and sonar equipment to move this search forward.

“We are trying to cover every acre in this preserve,” Commander Joe Fussell said.

Laundrie remains the only person of interest in Gabby’s Petito’s disappearance and death. On Tuesday, the Teton County coroner confirmed her body was found in Wyoming over the weekend.

Bud Lefebvre and his daughter Carrie Smith live near the reserve. It’s an area he says he’s somewhat familiar with.

“If he’s in there it’ll be difficult to find him, but if you look long enough, someone will find him,” Lefebvre said. “Never in your own neighborhood, when it happens close it really hits home.”

Also Wednesday, Moab City Police released the witness statement from Aug. 12, when officers stopped Petito and Laundrie in Utah. The statement is revealing a little more about the alleged argument.

The witness wrote, “I wasn’t sure how serious this was, it was hard to tell if they were sort of play fighting, but from my point of view, something definitely didn’t seem right. It was as if the guy was trying to leave her, and maybe take her phone.”

Tonight, there’s a growing search for answers, answers Laundrie could potentially have.

“You think what if it was my daughter, and then you count your blessings it wasn’t and you feel bad for the parents,” Lefebvre said.

The search at the Carlton Reserve resumes Thursday.
