The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is holding a press conference to announce the results of one of the county’s largest meth busts to date.
Sheriff Tom Knight said 8.49 pounds (3,849 grams) of methamphetamine and 454.6 grams of cannabis were seized and at least five people were arrested during the six-month-long undercover investigation, tagged “Operation Night Train.”
“There is an ebb and flow when it comes to illicit drugs and it’s something we see nationwide. While we were strongly vocalizing our concerns with heroin and fentanyl around this same time last year, we are now seeing meth in large quantities and it’s something this community needs to be made aware of,” said Sheriff Knight. “This operation not only took drugs and weapons off the street but it also disrupted one of the most significant distribution networks in Sarasota County. The results of this operation are something this community should be very proud of.”
