SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) - A caregiver is accused of stealing more than $100,000 from her client in Sarasota, according to the sheriff's office.
Krystle McLeod, 38, is charged with one felony count of Grand Theft from a Person 65 or Older.
Detectives said McLeod was caring for a 96-year-old man when she started using his credit cards. She also wrote and cashed 180 checks in his name between March 2017 and August 2018.
"McLeod accepted payment for her services but also often wrote and cashed more than one check a day and used the money for personal purchases. Collectively, the checks totaled $109,727," detectives said in a news release.
The victim's power of attorney saw the suspicious transactions and contacted law enforcement.
McLeod was arrested and charged with one felony count of Grand Theft from a Person 65 or Older. She was booked into the Sarasota County Jail where she remains on a $20,000 bond, online records show.
McLeod's criminal history includes previous arrests for Child Neglect, Drug Possession, Resisting an Officer, among other charges.
