Homeowner shoots man during attempted Sarasota home invasion

SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) - A man was shot by a homeowner early Saturday morning during an attempted home invasion, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's office.

28-year-old James Jarvis of Bradenton was shot one time by the homeowner after he tried to enter the residence.

According to detectives, Jarvis was at a nearby bar establishment and left around 1 a.m. Saturday.

Shortly after 2 a.m., Jarvis attempted to enter the rear of a nearby residence in the 2800 block of Mayflower Street when he was confronted by a homeowner who told him to leave.

Jarvis refused and attempted to enter anyway. The homeowner then shot him.

Detectives said they believe Jarvis attempted to illegally enter this residence and was shot by a homeowner in self-defense.
