SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) - Shoppers at a Sarasota Publix saw a scary sight on Sunday - a man forcing a woman to leave with him.
He’s now under arrest.
On Sunday night, deputies went to a Publix at 5391 Fruitville Road after receiving multiple calls about a man who fought with a woman and then forced her to leave the store with him.
Moments later, the victim tried to re-enter the store and plead for help when the man grabbed her and forced her into the parking lot.
SCSO released a bulletin about a possible abduction, but it was later canceled after the woman contacted the Sheriff’s office to report that it was a domestic disturbance.
That man, 22-year-old Eduar Moreno is now under arrest. He was taken into custody on Monday in Manatee County and is awaiting extradition to Sarasota.
He’s been charged with false imprisonment and domestic battery.
Witnesses provided deputies the tag to his car which helped authorities track him down. The woman was also found without any serious injuries.
Officials say this was an isolated incident.
Moreno has several prior arrests in Manatee County including for Domestic Battery and Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer or Firefighter.
The sheriff’s office is reminding the public that domestic violence is a serious crime. Anyone who feels they or someone they know is a victim of domestic violence is encouraged to contact local law enforcement or dial the National Domestic Hotline at 1.800.799.7233.
