Roaches close 2 Tampa Bay area restaurants

State inspectors temporarily closed two Tampa Bay eateries from March 14 to 20, 2016. We’ve listed the restaurants that were closed below, along with details about what inspectors say they found.

Asados Al Carbon located at 7212 N. Armenia Ave. in Tampa

March 14, 2016: Restaurant temporarily closed with 25 violations

  • 25+ live roaches found on floor.
  • 3 dead roaches under shelf.
  • 12 live roaches found on floor behind chest freezer.
  • 1 live roach found on wall by chest freezer.
  • 2 live roaches under 3-compartment sink.
  • 1 live roach found by chest freezer next to prep table
  • Live, small flying insects in kitchen, food preparation area, or food storage area.

March 15, 2016: Restaurant reopened with 6 violations

Grille 54 located at 10900 SR 54 in Trinity

March 16 2016: Restaurant temporarily closed with 29 violations

  • 5 dead roaches found in gaskets of reach-in cooler on cook’s line.
  • 10 dead roaches found on floor under canned goods.
  • 5 live roaches found in wheel of reach-in cooler on cook’s line.
  • 10 live roaches on bags of food on cook’s line
  • 2 live roaches on floor of cook’s line.
  • 1 live roach under canned goods rack.
  • 1 live roach on floor in the back prep line.
  • Stop Sale Order issued for dented/rusted cans of tomato sauce present.

March 17, 2016: Restaurant reopened with 7 violations

The following 8 Tampa Bay restaurants received the most violations during inspections conducted from March 14 to 20, 2016

Saigon Deli, 3858 W. Waters Ave. in Tampa, 79 violations

  • Nonfood-grade bags used in direct contact with food.
  • Stop Sale Order issued for pork thawing at room temperature 64 ° F.
  • Soil residue in food storage containers.

Jerk Hut Jamaican Grille, 926 E. Fowler Ave., Tampa, 53 violations

  • 1 live roach found under steam table in kitchen area/ cook line area.
  • 4 live roaches under dish machine area.
  • 10 flies found in box of yucca in back kitchen area near dry storage room.
  • 1 Dead fly in ice bin at bar.

Saigon Deli, 3858 W. Waters Ave., Tampa, 42 violations

  • Nonfood-grade containers used for food storage in direct contact with food.
  • Slicer blade soiled with old food debris.
  • Nonfood-grade containers used for food storage direct contact with food.
  • Working containers of food removed from original container not identified by common name: sugar, spices.

ABC PIzza, 13508 University Plaza, Tampa, 39 violations

  • 2 dead roaches in back prep area.
  • Hotel and Restaurant license is expired.
  • Nonfood-grade containers used for food storage in direct contact with food.

China Yuan Restaurant, 8502 N. Armenia Ave., Tampa, 39 violations

  • Stop Sale Order issued due to adulteration of food product: 18 ducks.
  • Soil residue in food storage containers.
  • Live, small flying insects in kitchen, food preparation area, or food storage area.

Garibaldi Restaurant, 1235 E. Hillsborough Ave., Tampa, 38 violations

  • Employee failed to wash hands before changing gloves and/or putting on gloves to work with food.
  • Cook touched tacos with bare hands.
  • The following potentially hazardous cold food held at temperatures greater than 41 degrees fahrenheit: pico 47°F, cut lettuce 45°F, cheese 50°F, steak 46°F, fried pepper 49°F, raw chicken 46°F, salsa 46°F, rice 50°F.

Asian Cuisine, 2901 E. Busch Blvd., Tampa, 35 violations

  • Stop Sale Order issued for the following potentially hazardous foods due to temperature abuse: egg drop soup 52°F, egg drop soup (dark) 53°F, gravy 56°F.
  • Nonfood-grade containers used for food storage in direct contact with food.
  • Food stored on floor: containers of oil on cook’s line; soda boxes in storage room; plastic containers of foods in walk-in freezer.

Mimi’s Cafe, 804 Providence Rd., Brandon, 32 violations

  • Accumulation of black/green mold-like substance in the interior of the ice machine.
  • Potentially hazardous cold food held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Soil residue in food storage containers.

Asia Buffet, 1742 Bruce B. Downs Blvd., Wesley Chapel, 32 violations

  • Server handled soiled dishes or utensils and then picked up plated food, served food, or prepared a beverage without washing hands.
  • Raw shrimp stored over cooked chicken on walk-in cooler.
  • Clams held at 76F on cook’s line.
