HAINES CITY, Fla. (WFLA) – It happened in an instant.
Two masked men, dressed in black from head-to-toe, busted through the doors of a Haines City Family Dollar Wedneday nightt.
It happened just before closing time at 10 p.m. at the store’s location on East Hinson Avenue.
For those inside at the time, it was terrifying.
It was the longest sixty seconds of their lives.
During the robbery, one of the suspects fired a shot from a handgun into the ceiling.
The Haines City Police Department says the two men got an unspecified amount of money from the registers, but were unable to get into the safe.
“You’re just not safe anywhere, you know, especially shopping with my kids. We have to worry about it, it’s not right,” said shopper Roberto Hernandez.
The father-of-five shops here often.
He says he looks forward to running errands with his kids after work.
But, when things like this happen, it makes him nervous.
“I’ve been living here for almost 25 years, and that’s why we live here because it’s quiet,” he told WFLA.
Thankfully, no one was hurt.
However, the two men scared those inside, and the dangerous duo is still out there.
Roberto tells us that he and his family are hopng the two men are caught soon – describing Haines City as a safe place for children and families.
“I don’t like big cities, that’s why we chose Haines City to raise our family,” Roberto said.
