Shooter claims self-defense in killing of Haines City man

A person accused of fatally shooting a man outside of a Haines City business said they did it in self-defense, police said.

Furious Bernard Shell, 26, was shot and killed Sunday at about 3:45 p.m. following an altercation outside of a business in the 1600 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way, according to the Haines City Police Department. 

Shell was rushed to Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center and died 30 minutes later.

Police said the shooter claimed self-defense and is cooperating with the investigation, which is ongoing.
