BARTOW, Fla. (WFLA) - The Polk County Courthouse was evacuated due to what was initially thought to be a suspicious package on Thursday.
After determining the device was suspicious, the immediate area was secured by Bartow police and Fire staff.
All people remaining in the courthouse were evacuated.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office responded with bomb detection dogs and perimeter officers.
The Tampa Bomb Squad was notified and responded to investigate.
Utilizing a robot, the bomb squad found the suspicious device to be discarded electronics trash.
According to Bartow police, the device found turned out to be a car mirror with wires attached.
The all clear has been given at the courthouse.
Earlier in the day, police did receive a phoned in bomb threat for the department.
The threat, which was received at 1:30 p.m., was determined not to be credible.
