LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) – No one was injured when a plane’s nose gear collapsed during the Sun ‘n Fun air show on Tuesday.
According to Lakeland police, around 12:11 p.m., a 1978 Beachcraft Barron twin-engine experienced difficulty while attempting to land.
The airplane’s nose gear collapsed, causing it to skid down the runway to a stop.
The pilot, John Quinlan, 72, of Claxon, Georgia and his wife, Kathryn, were not injured.
The Lakeland Fire Department responded to the Aircraft Rescue Firefighting vehicle and checked for fuel leak.
The runway was closed down for approximately 50 minutes.
The plane was moved to a secure location and FAA personnel responded for a preliminary investigation.
