LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) – Officials confirmed the Lakeland High School athletic director and a teacher are both on paid administrative leave.
Athletic Director Justin Troller was placed on leave Dec. 8. Teacher Laura Williamson was placed on leave Nov. 30.
District officials have not said what prompted the leave or whether the athletic director’s and teacher’s cases are related. “We cannot comment on matters related to ongoing internal investigations,” a Polk County Public Schools spokesperson said.
Troller was first hired by the district in 2002 as a coach. In 2003 he worked as a substitute teacher. In 2004 he became a social studies teacher. Before becoming athletic director in 2014, he also worked as an administrative assistant. Troller’s current salary is $45,771.
Williamson was hired to work as a teacher at Kathleen Senior High in 2005. In 2008 she started teaching at Lakeland Senior High. Her current salary is $45,171.
Troller is also a Lakeland city commissioner. City Spokesperson Kevin Cook said he does not know why Troller is on paid leave. He told News Channel 8 the Polk County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
The sheriff’s office said it will not comment on the investigation because it is ongoing.
Troller will remain on the commission at this time because it is an elected position and he has not been convicted of anything, officials said.
