A Lakeland Fire Department lieutenant rescued a kitten and gave her a forever home on Friday.

The crew on Engine 31 rescued a call to a nearby church for reports of loud meowing coming from the engine compartment of a vehicle.

The 2-week-old calico kitten was hiding inside and too scared to come out.

Firefighters coxed her out and the kitten was taken to SPCA Florida.

Lieutenant Faviere couldn’t get the kitten’s little meows or face off his mind, so he and his wife went to visit the kitten after his shift and fell in love.

They named the kitten “Maya” and will take her home when she is given a clean bill of health.

The fire department posted adorable photos of the feline on the agency’s Facebook page.
