AUBURNDALE, Fla. (WFLA) – The second case of rabies this year was confirmed in Polk County on Wednesday.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies received a call for service on Feb. 11 regarding three German Shepherd dogs that were in a fight with a raccoon in the Winter Ridge Drive area of Auburndale.

The raccoon was killed by the dogs’ owner and the dogs were not seriously injured.

The raccoon was collected and sent for rabies testing.

Results of the test received on Wednesday confirmed the animal had rabies.
