Tampa mayoral candidate David Straz explains why he isn’t debating… at all of them

Politics

It’s become the debate over the debates. Tampa mayoral candidate David Straz is attending a candidate’s forum tonight, but it’s only one of a few he plans to be a part of.

This comes after Straz skipped a forum on Monday and then canceled an appearance for another one on Friday.

Straz held a news conference Thursday to say why.

“I have decided to attend three debates. Plus the Black Caucus tonight and there will be two television debates and one radio debate,” Straz said. “I think forums and debates process are an important part of campaigning and I enjoy them. I’ve done 18 of them so far.”

Straz said he thinks voters are a “little exhausted” of the debates, and says he has a campaign to run.

The debates he will participate in are April 5, April 11 and April 12.

Jane Castor, who narrowly missed winning the mayoral race by 2 percent last week, said the more the merrier when it comes to debates.
