Trayvon Martin’s family attorney, Ben Crump, representing girlfriend in Stand Your Ground case

Pinellas County

The girlfriend of parking lot shooting victim Markeis McGlockton has hired Trayvon Martin’s family attorney, Ben Crump, to represent her in this latest Stand Your Ground case.

Pressure from the community continues to build for an arrest to be made after Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said Michael Drejka was within his rights to protect himself after being pushed.

Drejka claims he was standing his ground, in self defense.

After watching the video, former Pinellas County detective Mike Peasley said Sheriff Gualtieri made the wrong decision.

“First of all, there was no more danger to the subject that was on the ground. The victim backed away. He didn’t approach him again and there’s just no way that that’s Stand Your Ground,” said Peasley.

“I just think it’s a sad situation for the family and the son had to sit there and be witness to his father being shot and I can not believe that he wasn’t arrested that night.”

The McGlockton’s attorney, Michele Rayner, said it was murder.

“What gave him the empowerment to feel that he could actually do that?” she asked during a Tuesday press conference.

Girlfriend Britany Jacobs said McGlockton didn’t deserve to die.

“He didn’t have to go like this,” she said.

The family said Drejka belongs in jail.

“I don’t know this man at all. Markeis did not know this man at all and all he was trying to do was protect what was his,” said Jacobs.
