PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – The St. Petersburg Fire Department is currently investigating a sailboat fire that left one person hospitalized and killed one pet. 

St. Pete Fire received a call around 8 p.m. Sunday that a sailboat near Tierra Verde, Florida, became engulfed in flames. 

According to officials, two adults and two pets were on board. Both adults and one of the pets were able to escape from the boat once the fire started.

One person was taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation. 

St. Pete Fire says the boat is a total loss.

No other information has been released at this time.
