Pinellas school worker, 74, accused of kissing, 'firmly embracing' child

WFLA Web Staff - ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) - A 74-year-old Pinellas County School District worker is accused of confining a low-functioning child in a secluded area and kissing her.

Ira Lee Boyd, of St. Petersburg, a plant operator, was charged Thursday with false imprisonment and simple battery. The incident occurred around 11:59 a.m. at Campbell Park Elementary, 1051 7th Ave. S. in St. Peterburg.

The victim was attending a function outside of the school building when a staff member lost sight of her, according to an arrest affidavit. The suspect did not have permission to be alone with the child, deputies said.

Boyd allegedly had the victim in an area with loud machinery, keeping anyone from hearing them. "While alone with the child, the defendant forcibly hugged the victim while firmly pressing up against her with his hands on her hips and firmly kissed the mouth of the victim," the affidavit says.

The child said it was "nasty" and against her well, deputies said. Boyd allegedly gave three $1.00 bills to the victim.

A teacher's assistant saw the suspect "firmly embracing" the victim, deputies said.

"The teacher assistant was visibly shaken," deputies added.
