A Pinellas deputy was hospitalized early Wednesday morning after his car was hit by a DUI suspect.

Deputy Shawn Livernois was on-duty and traveling northbound on 37th Street South in his unmarked 2007 Dodge Magnum at 12:01 a.m.

Investigators say 34-year-old Derrick Taylor was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima westbound on 11th Avenue South and did not stop at a stop sign located at the intersection of 37th Street South and 11th Avenue South and crashed into Deputy Livernois’ vehicle.

Paramedics responded and Deputy Livernois and Taylor were both transported to a local hospital for minor non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators say that Taylor showed signs of impairment at the scene. After he was released from the hospital, Taylor was arrested and charged with  DUI with Property Damage/Personal Injury. Taylor was also cited for not wearing a seatbelt and failing to stop at a stop sign.
