Pinellas deputy injured in crash

A crash involving a Pinellas County deputy leaves two injured Wednesday morning.

The crash happened at the intersection of 49th Street and 62nd Ave North. 

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Pinellas Sheriff’s Deputy Eric Gibson, 51 entered the intersection at 49th Street and 62nd Avenue at the same time Lori Zimmerman, 35, attempted to make a left turn onto 62nd Avenue North and failed to see Deputy Gibson’s marked vehicle. Zimmerman struck the vehicle causing it to overturn in the intersection.

Witnesses say Zimmerman had a flashing yellow arrow when she turned left in front of Deputy Gibson, who had a solid green light.

Both Gibson and Zimmerman were transported to local hospitals for non-life threatening injuries. 

Zimmerman has issued a citation for Failure to Yield – Approaching/Entering an Intersection. The investigation is ongoing.
