Pinellas County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the drowning of a Largo man on Gandy Beach on Wednesday.
According to the sheriff’s office, the incident occurred around 7:08 p.m.
A 58-year-old man was found in the water by Ivana Mendiola, who was walking her dog along the beach.
Mendiola observed the man floating approximately 30 yards from the shore.
She called out to the man, but went into the water to check on him when he did not respond.
Mendiola found the man unconscious and unresponsive.
She and her husband pulled the man from the water and called 911.
Paramedics pronounced the man dead prior to the arrival of deputies.
Deputies say the incident appears to be accidental.
The identity of the man has not been released.
