SEMINOLE, Fla. (WFLA) — Two people were arrested Tuesday after an accidental shooting at a Seminole park left one person injured, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies said they responded to the Seminole City Park at 7464 Ridge Road around 12:23 a.m. after they received reports of someone suffering from a gunshot wound.

Investigators said they determined the victim, along with a 20-year-old and a 17-year-old, were at the park smoking marijuana.

Detectives said the 20-year-old had a gun and began “manipulating it” when it accidentally went off, striking the victim in the face.

The victim was taken to a hospital and is in “stable condition.”

During an interview, detectives said the 20-year-old and 17-year-old admitted to attempting to conceal the gun and shell casing by throwing it in a nearby pond.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team recovered the firearm from the pond.

The 20-year-old and 17-year-old were both charged with tampering with physical evidence. The 20-year-old was taken to the Pinellas County Jail and the teen was taken to the Pinellas County Juvenile Assessment Center.

The investigation is ongoing.
