TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. (WFLA) – Students were allowed back into their schools early Friday afternoon after two Tarpon Springs schools were evacuated following a call about a suspicious backpack.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 10 a.m. about a suspicious backpack.
The caller said a suspicious backpack was seen at Tarpon Springs High School library, then changed the location to East Lake High School library.
East Lake High School and East Lake Middle School Academy of Engineering were evacuated as a precaution.
Deputies with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office searched both schools and did not find anything suspicious.
An “all clear” was issued shortly before 1 p.m. and students were allowed back into their classrooms.
No arrests were made in connection with the incident.
An investigation is ongoing.
The schools are located at 1200 Silver Eagle Drive which is off East Lake Road.
