ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – A Northeast High School football player passed away Wednesday morning.

According to a statement from the school’s football program, freshman Rueben Marcano died at only 14-years-old.

According to police, Marcano’s mother was called at work and notified her son did not go to school.

She called his father to go by the home to check on their son, thinking he may have been sick.

Marcano’s father found him in the home, deceased.
