Pinellas deputies are searching for a man who they say robbed an elderly woman of her purse outside of a Publix in Seminole.
According to the sheriff’s office, the crime occurred on March 24 at the store located on 113 Street North.
The suspect greeted the woman as she got out of her car at the grocery store.
Deputy Chuck Skipper explains what happened next.
“He came up to her and asked her if he could help her and she somewhat dismissed it as like ‘no, I’m fine.’ At that moment is when he grabbed her purse,” said Skipper, who says the woman didn’t fight, but didn’t give up quietly.
“As he was driving away, she was calling out a description and letting people know. She was not a silent victim “
He possibly left the scene in an early 2000s red Chevrolet pickup truck.
The man later attempted to use the victim’s debit cards at two separate banks,
The day after the robbery, he tried using a card at the Wells Fargo Bank located at 11500 Ulmerton Road in Largo.
That same day he made another attempt at the Republic Bank at 12933 Walsingham Road, also in Largo.
Both attempts were unsuccessful, as the victim cancelled her cards.
The suspect appears to be in his 20s or 30s. He was last seen wearing a long-sleeve Salt Life shirt, a black FSU ball cap and mirrored sunglasses.
