A Ruskin man is facing charges after police say he hit two pedestrians who were crossing a street in St. Petersburg.

The crash happened around 11:30 Saturday night. Police say 25-year-old Cameron Ray Baxley was driving his Jeep Wrangler on 3rd Street North and turning onto 1st Avenue North when he hit two people.

The pedestrians have been identified as 24-year-old Malcolme Sydney John Tunstall and 23-year-old Alexis Michele Scognamiglio. A police report states they were crossing 1st Avenue North in a marked crosswalk when they were hit.

Police say Baxley drove away after the crash but was later stopped by officers several blocks away. 

Tunstall suffered life-threatening injuries when he was hit. Scognamiglio suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to Bayfront Health-St. Petersburg.

Baxley was arrested for DUI serious bodily injury and leaving the scene of a crash with injuries.
