CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) – Police in Clearwater have arrested a man who is accused of biting and kissing a young girl while she was at her baby sitter’s home.
Art Barreto was arrested Wednesday afternoon for child abuse. An arrest report from Clearwater police says the 43-year-old bit the victim multiple times on the ear, arm and shoulder, and picked her up against her will.
Police responded to the scene after the alleged incident happened and met the 11-year-old victim to get a statement. She told officers she was in the kitchen of her baby sitter’s home when Barreto kissed her head and hugged her.
Barreto then kissed and bit the girl’s neck, according to the affidavit. Police say the girl tried to back away.
The victim told officers Barreto then reached his hands out toward her. She thought he was asking for a high five and reached out to give him one. Instead, the girl says Barreto grabbed her hands, pulled her close and bit her right ear and then her forearm.
Barreto is also accused of picking the girl up by her arms and trying to put her on the counter bent over, according to Clearwater police.
The victim told officers she felt scared and uncomfortable throughout the ordeal.
Barreto later said he did not fully remember all that happened but was sorry for upsetting the girl, police say. The arrest affidavit states there was an indication that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time.
The arrest affidavit does not say whether Barreto lives at the baby sitter’s home.
