LARGO, Fla. (WFLA) – Largo City Commissioners voted Tuesday night to approve an ordinance that would prevent certain single-use plastics on city property.
The vote was cast 4-1 to approve the ban that will prevent foam and plastic products like plates, cups and straws from being distributed.
The ban will go into effect on July 1.
These microplastics pollute our waterways and are eaten by wildlife, including the fish that we then may consume. By using eco-friendly alternatives such as paper, the City of Largo is protecting the long-term economic and environmental health of our community,” said the city’s sustainability coordinator in an email.
