A Largo man is facing additional charges after one of the victims he’s accused of shooting died Monday.
Marguerite Williams, 59, passed away at Bayfront Medical Center.
Largo police said Williams and her daughter, Chantel Johnson, were shot by Kenneth James Prince on May 7 at Whispering Palms Apartments at 9 p.m.
According to the arrest report, both women were in the parking lot of the complex when they came in contact with Prince.
Detectives said words were exchanged between both parties on May 5.
Police said on May 7, Prince claims he was threatened and that’s when he pulled out a handgun and shot them.
Both women were rushed to the hospital.
Sherrah Hill said Williams was like a mother to her.
“If you needed something, she was there. Her door was always open, her couch was always open. If you needed a ride. Anything in any way she could help out, she would help out, ’cause she was just mom,” she said.
“This is unexpected, totally off the wall. We’re still trying to put our minds around what happened.”
Police said Prince also fired his weapon at another man who was sitting in his car.
Prince is charged with second degree murder, attempted murder and carrying a weapon without a license.
According to the arrest affidavit, Prince said he didn’t need a license because he was a Marine and had the right to defend himself.
