MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) – The first Tampa Bay area sea turtle nests of 2019 were discovered on Madeira Beach on Wednesday.
The two nests were discovered before dawn by volunteers.
The nests are clearly identified with signs warning beachgoers not to disturb them, according to the city.
The City of Madeira Beach reminds residents to help protect sea turtles by knocking down sand castles, filling in holes and cleaning up garbage while on the beach.
It is illegal to touch sea turtles under both Florida and federal laws.
