First Lady Casey DeSantis holds substance abuse roundtable in Largo

Pinellas County

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – First Lady Casey DeSantis, Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladpo, and Seminole County Sheriff Dennis Lemma hosted a roundtable in Largo on Thursday evening.

The roundtable discussed substance abuse in Florida and how the Florida Department of Health and Department of Education are working together to expand on the state’s “The Facts. Your Future.” campaign by creating assemblies for students.

Those assemblies would include testimony from recovering addicts, health professionals and law enforcement.

“Really the philosophy, this is just say no, but here’s why. We want to give the facts so kids can make the right decision when it comes to drug usage,” DeSantis said.

Desantis says from May 2020 to April 2021, more than 100,000 people across the U.S. died from drug overdoses.
