Fiancee films suspect accused of taking wallet at Walmart

Officers are on the hunt for the thief, who was captured on camera stealing a man’s wallet in broad daylight

The theft happened on April 1st at Walmart on US 19 at State Road 590.  But this was no April Fools joke!

The victim, Danny McManis initially didn’t realize he lost his wallet. “I was pulling my cigarettes out to go outside and smoke and i smoked my cigarette and came back in and that’s when she told me to stop that guy he’s got your wallet, McManis said.

Danny’s fiance, Emma Gans, spotted the thief pick up the wallet from the floor and that’s when she started recording.

More than two minutes of video that is now posted on the Clearwater Police Facebook page it shows the crook tossing the wallet, after helping himself to the cash, then, he ran off.

McManis claims the crook cleaned him out, “That was the last little bit that I had left, to make it through the week. Plus, to send my daughter money and after he did that, I basically had nothing.”

McManis and his fiancee feel they did the right thing because if they had gotten physical with the thief they know they could’ve gotten in trouble with the law.

Police claim the suspect initially refused to return the wallet. Officers say the wallet was eventually thrown at the victim, but the cash inside was kept. if you know who the individual in the video is, you are urged to call the clearwater police department at 727-562-4242.
