Feds find faked records and millions in shady spending at Bay Area CareerSource centers

Pinellas County

A U.S. Department of Labor report released this week calls out CareerSource Pinellas and CareerSource Tampa Bay for operating blatantly out-of-compliace with federal requirements.

The highlighted malfeasance included falsified records, “fake” job placements, and more than $17 million in questionable spending.

In 2018, 8 On Your Side reported on allegations of inflated job placement numbers under former CEO Ed Peachey, who was later fired.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office claims the workforce center took credit for more than 600 job placements within the agency that never happened.

Some of the questionable spending outlined in the report includes staff incentives for strong placement numbers and pay raises for Peachey.

The FBI and Department of Labor launched investigations earlier this year.

The state now has 45 days to submit a corrective action plan.
