One man is behind bars and another is in the hospital with critical injuries after a crash in St. Petersburg.

The crash happened just after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday on 34th Street North near 4th Avenue.

Police say 32-year-old Luis Gonzalez was driving his Honda sedan south on 34th Street in the median lane when he hit a pedestrian crossing the street. According to officers, Gonzalez did not stop to help and drove away from the scene.

St. Pete police units were near the crash when it happened and were able to track Gonzalez after it happened. He was taken into custody shortly after leaving and was later arrested for leaving the scene of a crash involving serious injuries.
