PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – Detectives assigned to the robbery and homicide unit of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office have arrested two men after they lured a family to a home in St. Petersburg and robbed them at gunpoint.
The crime occurred around 8:52 p.m. on July 16.
According to detectives, Miguel Martinez-Ramirez, 23, and his wife, Maribel Martinez, 23, were using the Facebook Market Place to purchase a cellphone.
Miguel was communicating with the seller of a phone and negotiated a price to purchase it from the seller identified as “Destiny Dawes.”
Detectives say the seller told Miguel to meet at a home on Yellow Pine Street to complete the transaction.
Miguel, Maribel and their newborn child drove to the location and parked outside.
While the victims were waiting to meet the seller, a dark colored vehicle pulled up and two men exited the vehicle, armed with guns. Hoodies covered their faces.
Detectives said one suspect approached Miguel, who was sitting in the driver’s seat, and pointed a gun at him, demanding money.
The second suspect approached Maribel and pointed a gun at her while she was seated in the passenger seat, holding her newborn.
The suspects took personal property and approximately $500 in cash from the victims before fleeing the scene.
Detectives identified the suspects as Jermaine Brown, 20, and Robert Walker, 18.
Brown turned himself in to police on Sept. 4 for an unrelated attempted murder charge.
He admitted to the robbery when interviewed by detectives.
He was taken to the Pinellas County Jail and charged with one count of robbery with a deadly weapon or firearm.
Detectives found Robert Walker at Boca Ciega High School on Friday.
They interviewed Walker and he admitted to the robbery allegations.
He was arrested on a charge of robbery with a deadly weapon or firearm and was also taken to the Pinellas County Jail.
